Shopee Malaysia office culture honest review (2024–2025)

Been here about 14 months. Here's my honest take:

Work pace: Fast. Like really fast. Quarterly OKRs mean you're always in crunch mode. If you're used to slower GLC pace this will be a shock.

People: Majority young (mid-20s to early 30s). Lots of ex-Big 4 and ex-MNC folks. Generally sharp colleagues.

Pay: Competitive. They pay above market for most roles. RSUs are a nice bonus but vesting takes time.

Culture: Collaborative within teams but cross-functional politics can be messy. Work hard, play hard is real here.

WFH: Mostly in-office now. Maybe 1 WFH day a week if your manager is cool.

Would I recommend it? Yes if you want rapid growth, no if you want balance. Good spot to grind for 2–3 years and grow quickly.

Accurate review. The RSUs only make sense if you stay 4 years for full vest. Most people leave before that so the total comp calculator looks better than reality. Factor this in when comparing offers.

The cross-functional politics thing is real. Different teams have very different cultures within Shopee. The logistics team and the marketing team might as well be different companies.

I'd add that internal mobility is actually quite good if you perform well. Moved from analytics to product after 1.5 years — something that would have taken much longer at a traditional company.
