GrabFood internship โ€” what it's really like (2024)

by Taufiq HakimยทFebruary 28, 2026

Just wrapped up my 4-month internship at Grab (food team) and wanted to write a real review since most I found online were generic.

What I worked on: Actual features that shipped. I owned a small dashboard project from design to deployment. Was not just fetching coffee.

Mentoring: Had a dedicated buddy who was a senior SWE. Had regular 1:1s. Genuinely felt supported.

Pay: RM2,000/month for a tech intern. Higher than most.

Culture: Collaborative and quite flat for a company this size. Regional meetings so you get exposure to teams in SG, ID, etc.

Down sides: It's busy. The pace can feel overwhelming if you're not comfortable with ambiguity. Also, the intern cohort itself was competitive โ€” not toxic, but everyone was trying to make an impression.

Converted? Applied for a full-time role โ€” waiting to hear back. Fingers crossed.

RM2,000 for an intern is genuinely good. Most places here still offer RM800โ€“1,200. Grab clearly values their interns. Hope you get converted โ€” sounds like a great experience.

The 'competitive but not toxic' intern cohort is a real thing at tech companies. Everyone's trying to impress but you also need to genuinely make friends โ€” those connections pay off down the line.

I interned at Grab too (different team, 2023). The buddy system is real and genuinely helpful. Some teams are better than others at onboarding interns โ€” sounds like you had a good one.
