Does Malaysia have equal pay for equal work?

Legally, the Employment Act applies to all. In practice, pay gaps by gender still exist. Bumiputera hiring quotas in GLCs can create imbalances. MNCs are more consistent with pay equity practices.

The Employment Act 1955 does not differentiate by gender for pay. The gap comes from practice, not law. Important distinction.

MNCs with global pay bands tend to be most equitable because the band is anchored to role not to the individual negotiating.
