AirAsia culture honest review — 18 months in

by Faridah Azman·May 25, 2026

Decided to write this because most AirAsia reviews online are either glowing PR or totally bitter. The reality is somewhere in between.

The good: Energy is infectious, especially if you're in commercial or product. People are generally young, ambitious, and genuinely passionate about the brand. Leadership is visible and accessible compared to most Malaysian companies.

The hard parts: Post-pandemic recovery mode means headcount is lean and everyone is stretched. Processes are still catching up. Pay is competitive but not exceptional — you're partly paying a 'cool brand' tax.

Who should join: People early in their career who want fast exposure and don't mind some chaos. Not for those who want stability and clear structure.

My company does this too. Best part is management always says "we're like a family" but somehow only the C-suite gets the bonus.

The open-door policy at my place is literally a door that is never closed because the GM never leaves. Zero privacy.

Green flags for me: clear onboarding plan, team actually eats lunch together by choice, and no one apologises for leaving on time.
