Maybank honest culture review — what the career fair doesn't tell you

by Lim Shui Ming·May 22, 2026

Been here 2.5 years across two divisions. The culture varies wildly by team so broad Maybank reviews are almost meaningless, but here are patterns.

The brand is genuinely strong and doors open with it. Benefits package is one of the best in Malaysian banking (medical is comprehensive, loan rates are a real perk). But the pace of change is slow by design, this is a regulated, risk-averse institution, and that permeates everything.

For fresh grads expecting startup energy, it will frustrate you. For people who want stability, learning within a large institution, and a solid name on their CV, it's very solid. The management quality varies enormously, your direct manager matters more than the company here.

Heard "we treat everyone like family" and ran. Family dynamics in a corporate setting is never good — it just means no boundaries.

My previous company had motivational quotes everywhere but no proper career framework. Vibes over substance.

The office layout said a lot — director had a glass office facing the floor so he could watch everyone. Panopticon energy.
