Post-merger CelcomDigi culture — what it's like inside 2 years on

by Hendra Malik·May 20, 2026

When Celcom and Digi merged, a lot of people were anxious about which culture would 'win.' Two years in, here's my take: it's genuinely a third thing, not quite either.

There's still some residual team loyalty to the old companies, especially at mid-senior levels. But the new leadership has been deliberate about creating new shared rituals and values rather than just picking one side.

The good news: the best practices from both are surfacing. The frustrating part: some redundancy in roles and processes hasn't been resolved cleanly, which creates ambiguity about ownership.

Overall though, better than most merger outcomes I've heard about.

The "always available" culture is a silent killer. I started ignoring messages after 7pm and it took three weeks but people adjusted.

Right to disconnect should be in employment contracts. France has it in law. Malaysia should too.

Set my Slack status to "offline" after 6pm and blocked the app on my phone. Career did not end. Life got better.
