Panel interview with 4 interviewers at once โ€” how to manage it

by Crystal LeongยทMay 26, 2026

Had my first panel interview last year and nearly shut down completely when I walked in to find four people behind a table. Here's what helped.

Eye contact: Answer the person who asked the question, but sweep eye contact across the panel while talking. Don't lock in on one person โ€” acknowledge everyone.

Note the dynamics: Often one person leads and others probe specific areas. Identify the decision-maker early โ€” they usually ask the broader strategic questions.

Pace yourself: With multiple interviewers, there are more questions. Take a breath between them. Don't feel rushed.

Address people by name: If introductions were made, use their names when relevant. "That's a great point, [name]..." goes a long way.

It's still just a conversation: Four people evaluating you can feel more intense, but the content of your answers matters the same way it would with one.

The 3-month industrial training requirement from Malaysian universities is fine but the timing clashes with company project cycles. June starts are brutal for hiring teams.

My university's IR form process takes three weeks. By then the company has moved on. Universities need to streamline industrial training admin.

We need more flexibility in when industrial training can be done. Final year semester 1 creates a bottleneck. Spread it across the degree.
