Internet for WFH in Malaysia — ISP comparison and home setup guidE

by Ridhwan Yusoff·May 23, 2026

After three incidents where bad internet cost me important calls, I took this seriously. Sharing what I found.

ISPs for home WFH (based on KL/PJ/Selangor experience):
- Unifi (TM): most widely available, generally reliable, RM99–199/month plans offer 100–500Mbps
- Maxis Home Fibre: competitive speeds, good for areas where Unifi coverage is weak
- TIME Internet: widely regarded as most consistent in areas where it's available (mainly condos)
- Celcom/Maxis wireless broadband: last resort — speeds and consistency don't match fibre

Setup tips:
- Place your router in the same room you work, not across the apartment
- Use a wired ethernet connection for calls if possible — even a short run from router to laptop via USB-C adapter
- Get a 4G backup SIM for important calls on days when your main connection is unstable

TIME is genuinely considered best-in-class by most people I know who have it.

Corporate sports day at my company ended with a guy spraining an ankle racing the GM. We haven't had one since. Miss the chaos honestly.

Badminton is the universal Malaysian corporate sport. Every company has an unofficial badminton crew. Find them on your first week.

My company does a monthly futsal game and it's legitimately the best hour of the month. Cross-department, everyone is equal on the court.
