Is Cyberjaya still relevant now that people work from anywhere?

by Izwan Kamal·May 20, 2026

Genuine question and I want real answers. I've been in tech for 8 years, mostly in and around Cyberjaya, and the last two years have felt different.

Pre-pandemic: Cyberjaya made sense as a hub. Many MNCs and tech companies had offices there, you wanted to be near your employer.

Post-pandemic: With WFH and hybrid normalised, the rationale for living in Cyberjaya specifically, proximity to those offices, weakens. The infrastructure has always been car-dependent and MRT coverage is limited.

That said: rents are still lower than KLCC/Bangsar, some MNCs still mandate physical presence, and the tech talent density in the area still makes networking useful.

For someone choosing where to rent in the Klang Valley in 2025, is Cyberjaya still in the consideration set for you? Or have people moved on?

I do a solo working retreat for three days once a year. Rent a chalet, no meetings, just deep work. Reset my productivity for the quarter.

The Genting coworking space during off-peak weekdays is underrated. Cool air, fast WiFi, quiet. Great change of scenery.

Langkawi remote work week is the dream. Duty-free coffee, beach at 6pm after work, and somehow I wrote more in five days than in a normal week.
