What to put on your CV when your internship was basically admin work

by Siti NurainaยทMay 24, 2026

It happens. You were promised meaningful work and ended up scheduling meetings and reformatting PowerPoints. Here's how to present it honestly.

Don't list tasks โ€” list what you learned. Even admin work teaches something. Coordinating a 50-person event tests project management. Managing communications for a team of 20 tests professional writing.

Find the one meaningful thing and lead with it. Every internship has at least one moment of real contribution. If you compiled a report someone used, if you ran a single process end-to-end โ€” lead with that.

Use numbers. "Managed logistics for 3 client events attended by 200+ participants" sounds more substantive than "helped with events."

Be honest with interviewers. Honesty about a limited internship paired with what you learned reads better than fabrication.

My PTPTN monthly repayment is RM 160 which is manageable. The income-contingent repayment option needs wider promotion though.

The 20% discount for lump sum PTPTN repayment is the best guaranteed return you can get in Malaysia if your cash flow allows. Do it immediately after graduation if possible.

The PTPTN income threshold for automatic deduction is RM 2,000. Understand your obligations before you start working โ€” ignoring it affects your CTOS score.
