Gym during lunch break in KL โ€” actually realistic or a fantasy?

by Brendan KohยทMay 22, 2026

I've been trying to make this work for 3 months. Here's my honest report.

The math: 1-hour lunch break. Gym + change + workout + shower + change + back to desk = minimum 75 minutes. Something has to give.

What I actually do: Changed to a 45-minute HIIT class that starts at 12:15pm at a gym 3 minutes from my office. Eat a packed lunch at my desk before the call at 2pm. No shower โ€” just a quick change and face wash.

Verdict: Barely works if: your office is very close to a gym, you don't have client-facing meetings right after, and you're okay eating at your desk.

The people I know who actually maintain this long-term either have a gym in their building or have compressed their lunch into 30 minutes.

My commute podcast list: WorkLife with Adam Grant, How I Built This, and Jom! for Malaysian content. Commuting ceased being wasted time.

I listen to Bahasa Malaysia news podcasts during commute. Keeps the language sharp and I arrive at work knowing what's happening in the country.

Audiobooks during commute got me through 18 books last year without touching my weekend. Storytel has a solid Malay library if you want local content.
