LeetCode vs alternatives for coding interview prep — honest comparison

by Siti Hajar Omar·May 25, 2026

Spent 3 months prepping for tech interviews this year. Here's what I actually used and whether it was worth it.

LeetCode: The standard. The problem set is comprehensive, the discussion forum is excellent for understanding multiple approaches, and most companies in Malaysia and Singapore align their interview questions to this style. Paid tier is useful but free is enough to start.

NeetCode: YouTube channel + website that curates the best LeetCode problems by topic and provides clear video explanations. Genuinely excellent as a learning companion.

AlgoExpert: Better structured for beginners than LeetCode but the problem set is smaller. Good if you want more hand-holding.

HackerRank: Some Malaysian companies use this for assessment. Worth practicing the format specifically if you're targeting those companies.

Recommendation: NeetCode's Top 150 list + LeetCode discussion forum. That combination covers 90% of what you need for most Malaysian and Singapore tech company interviews.

My anxiety manifested as perfectionism at work. Everything had to be perfect before submitting, which meant nothing was ever submitted on time. Therapy identified the root.

The coping mechanism of staying busy to avoid feeling anxious is effective short-term and destructive long-term. I spent 5 years discovering this.

Exercise as anxiety management is the most evidence-based non-pharmacological intervention available. I run three times a week and it is cheaper than my previous anxiety management strategies.
