HRD Corp claimable courses — how to actually use it and what's worth claiming

by Azrina Talib·May 24, 2026

Most Malaysian employees with companies that pay HRD Corp levy are entitled to funded training. Most people never use it. Here's the practical guide.

How it works: Your company pays a monthly HRD Corp levy (0.5—1% of payroll). This accumulates in a company account. Employees can claim approved courses from this fund.

How to access it: Ask your HR or L&D team. Some companies have a self-service portal. If your company doesn't have a clear process, the request is: "I'd like to use HRD Corp funding for [course]. It's on the approved provider list. Can you help me process this?"

What's worth claiming:
- Professional certifications: AWS, ACCA, PMP, CPA
- Technical courses from accredited local providers
- Leadership and management training
- Language and communication courses

What people miss: You can claim HRD Corp funds even if you're planning to leave. The entitlement is yours as an employee. Use it before you go.

The talent shortage in cybersecurity in Malaysia is real. I got 4 offers in 3 weeks with a CISSP. If you're considering the field, the job market is very favourable right now.

Data engineering is the hidden goldmine in Malaysian tech hiring. Everyone wants data scientists; fewer can find good data engineers. The gap is your opportunity.
