Office politics at Malaysian banks: an honest survival guide

Spent 4 years at two different local banks. Here's what I wish someone told me going in.

Politics is a feature, not a bug. Hierarchy is real and skipping it, even once, can define how people see you for years. Always loop in your direct manager before going to their manager.

Find a sponsor, not just a mentor. A mentor gives advice. A sponsor puts your name in rooms you're not in. In Malaysian banking culture, having the right senior person advocate for you is the fastest career accelerator.

Visibility over just output. Staying late is noticed more than efficient output. Learn when to be seen.
