CelcomDigi internship review — more enjoyable than I expected

by Amani Taib·May 20, 2026

Joined as a data analytics intern. Was bracing for a bureaucratic telco experience. Better than that.

The data team operates with a lot more independence than I expected. Modern tooling (Python, SQL, cloud data warehouse), real analytical problems, a supervisor who actually cared whether I learned something.

The broader company culture is in transition post-merger. Some teams feel more Celcom in DNA, others more Digi. The data team is closer to the Digi culture, flatter and more agile.

Allowance: RM1,200/month. Standard for this company type.

The intern cohort is smaller than at Grab or TikTok, so the community aspect is limited. But the actual work quality was surprisingly high.

Good choice for telco data analytics, digital transformation experience, or a solid Malaysian name on your CV.

MOOCs gave me the knowledge but the certificate didn't impress hiring managers. The portfolio I built while doing the MOOC was what landed the interview.

For data science: do the Google Data Analytics certificate, build 3 Kaggle notebooks, apply. That pathway works. I've seen it convert 5 times in my network.

The completion rate of MOOCs is under 10%. The ones who finish are not smarter, they have external accountability. Study groups, paid cohorts, or deadlines work.
