Most Malaysian employers of any size now screen applications through an Applicant Tracking System before a human reads them. The ATS parses your CV into structured fields — name, contact, employers, dates, titles, skills — and a recruiter searches that structure. A CV that reads beautifully to a person can still parse into nonsense, and the candidate never finds out why they heard nothing back.
The CV Checker uploads your file, parses it the way an ATS would, and returns three things: a readability and structure score, the keywords a recruiter for your target role would search for and whether yours contains them, and a rewritten version with the structural problems fixed. It is free and there is no limit on re-checks.
It is built around Malaysian hiring conventions specifically. Local CVs commonly carry details — IC number, photograph, marital status, expected salary, notice period — that international templates tell you to remove. Some of those genuinely hurt you with an ATS; others are expected here and their absence looks odd. The tool distinguishes between the two rather than applying US resume advice to a Malaysian job market.
The failures are almost always structural rather than a matter of writing quality:
Multi-column layouts. The visually striking two-column template is the single most common cause of a mangled parse. Many parsers read left-to-right across the full page width, interleaving your skills sidebar into the middle of your job history.
Text inside images or headers. Contact details placed in a header/footer region, or a name rendered as a graphic, are frequently invisible to the parser — producing an application with no way to contact you.
Non-standard section headings. "My Journey" instead of "Work Experience", or "What I Bring" instead of "Skills", stops the parser mapping the section to a known field.
Dates in inconsistent formats. Mixing "Jan 2023 – Present" with "03/2021-12/2022" tends to break the tenure calculation recruiters filter on.
Missing the words in the advert. A recruiter searching "SAP FICO" will not surface a CV that only ever says "finance systems". Mirror the posting's own vocabulary where it is honestly true of you.
Upload your CV as a PDF or Word document. PDF is preferable — it preserves the layout an employer will actually receive.
Paste in the job advert you are targeting, if you have one. The keyword analysis is far more useful against a specific posting than against a generic role.
Read the structure score first. Structural problems silently delete you from the shortlist; wording problems only weaken you.
Apply the keyword suggestions only where they are true. An ATS gets you read by a human, and that human will ask about anything you claimed.
Download the rewritten version, check it still sounds like you, and re-run the check to confirm the score moved.
