Working abroad vs staying in Malaysia — a framework for making the decision

Been asked this enough times that I built a decision framework. Not advocating either way.
Questions to answer first:
1. What's your primary goal? (Financial, career, experience, family, lifestyle)
2. What's your 10-year plan, does abroad accelerate or complicate it?
3. What's your fallback if it doesn't work out?
4. Single vs partnered vs kids changes the calculus significantly
Financial reality: Singapore offers 3—4x Malaysian salaries for comparable roles in many sectors.
Career reality: International experience signals well to Malaysian employers when you return. But many careers here can grow significantly without leaving.
The X factor: Proximity to family, aging parents, the social life you've built. These have real value that salary comparisons don't capture.
