Comparing medical benefits across Malaysian company types — what I found

After researching this for a job switch decision, here's a rough breakdown:
GLCs (PETRONAS, Maybank, TM, etc.): Typically comprehensive, panel clinics + hospitalisation + specialist + dental + optical. Some extend partial coverage to immediate family. Hospitalisation limits of RM100,000–300,000 are common.
Large MNCs: Usually solid. Hospitalisation and panel clinics standard. Dental and optical often capped low (RM500–800/year).
Local private companies: Highly variable. Many offer only panel clinic access with low limits. Hospitalisation coverage is not always included.
Startups: Often just panel clinic cards. Some progressive startups now offer mental health coverage which traditional companies don't.
The gap in hospitalisation coverage is where it really matters. A single surgery can cost RM30,000–100,000 in Malaysia. Make sure you know your limit before you need it.
