My colleagues are friendly and I'm able to get along with them even though they're mostly a lot older than me.
First of all, the management sucks. The schedule only comes out a few days before and often, last minute changes are made. Our shifts change a lot every day. Despite working as a part-timer I often work longer than the full-time staff. I only took up this job because I didn't want to spend my holiday before uni doing nothing, but it ended up taking over my time and I can't even plan things in advance as I don't know my work times and rest days. My manager is nasty as well, always insulting people and getting angry at nothing. I'm not paid for the time I take to count money and yet the manager demands that I come earlier (I usually arrive 5mins or more in advance) so I have time to count money as well as check out changes in pricing and codes, which is ridiculous, am I supposed to run around the whole store checking every item for possible offers and changes in pricing?? That's not all. Their meat is always very dirty with the juices all over the packaging, particularly the fish. Usually the juices will spill and leak all over the counter, and some people will proceed to just put their bare veggies onto it which could give them food poisoning. Lastly, training is very incomplete and we keep having to call people out from the office because we are unable to refund items on our own. The cash register and card machines constantly have problems and are extremely slow. If you ever feel like the cashiers at giant are somewhat incompetent that's because we're not given training for so many things. I don't understand why they have to make everything so complicated and difficult to do, I worked at popular before; it was so much easier and we were given complete training so we could assist customers adequately at only a slightly lower pay. Since I'm only part-time I don't even get benefits but I work as much as full-time staff. I regret applying to work at giant and I'm glad my contract ends soon.
