Cheap hotels are a great perk but that’s about it
You work nights weekends and holidays
I started with Marriott fresh out of college. I was able to develop my professional skills in a safe, supportive and highly structured enviroment. Company culture was great. I had many opportunities to explore interests and passions within the company like our local culture and company wellness program. I gained valuable experience being able to work with so many clients from different cultural backgrounds.
Property politics can turn toxic anywhere depending on the people. Hospitality comes with unusual working conditions like intoxicated clients or guests. Not unmanageable but a different kind of challenge.

Solid benefits package and coworkers are a blessing
Low pay, low morale, toxic upper management culture that rewards sacrificing your well being for the betterment of the company. Witnessed multiple coworkers engaged in unsafe work practices and overworked to the limit. Pay was abysmal for competitive market rate and toxic leadership operated like robotic slave drivers. Genuinely the worst experience professionally and personally I’ve ever had the displeasure of enduring. Very location dependent but ineptitude is rewarded and genuine hard work rewarded with additional performance punishment. Avoid at all costs.

Lack of growth and support from executive team, after many years of success at the property things changed when I asked a corporate employee why we couldn’t hire for the open positions which causes us to work an excessive amount of hours and reduced quality of life. After that was treated differently held to different standards than my peers. It was just disappointing to give so much to have successful profits for 10 years to be treated like I was at the end.
