MNC vs startup offer for developer fresh grad - tech stack dilemma
by Hana Zulaikha·August 17, 2026
Just got two developer offers after convocation and im really stuck on which one to take. The money is different but also the tech stacks are so far apart, im really confused.
Offer A is from a big MNC in Cyberjaya, solid RM4,500 gross with good benefits like medical and yearly bonuses. They use mostly Java Spring Boot for backend and some older Angular for frontend. It feels stable but I worry about learning relevant skills. Offer B is from a startup in Bangsar South, RM3,800, they are using more modern stuff like Python with Django and React for frontend, looks like a great learning curve. They also mentioned potential for stock options later. Both are a 3-month probation period.
I did my internship mostly in C# .NET so both stacks are new to me. my main concern is career trajectory after 3-5 years.
- Should I prioritise higher starting pay or learning the newer tech stack at this stage?
- Is it harder to switch from legacy tech later on?
What would you guys do in my shoes, especially those with more experience in dev work?
