UI/UX offer in KL, decent pay but solo team concerns
by Wan Haziq·August 22, 2026
Got an offer for a UI/UX Designer role in Bangsar South, salary is decent but im worried about the team size and project scope. Spent the Malaysia Day long weekend just thinking about it.
I've got three years experience, currently earning RM5,500 at an MNC with a dedicated design team. The new offer from a local agency is RM6,800. It's a good jump, but during the interview they kept stressing how 'lean' their design team is. Basically, i'd be the only dedicated UI/UX person, working directly with PMs and developers, lots of responsibility lah. My current setup gives me a senior designer for guidance, which i value a lot.
They said i'd have full ownership, a chance to really lead projects from start to finish. Sounds exciting on paper, but i'm scared of the potential for burnout and not having anyone to bounce ideas off.
- Salary bump is great, and it's near the LRT Kelana Jaya line, a plus.
- But no senior design mentorship and fear of being a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.
Is taking on full ownership in a small team a good move for career growth, or am i just setting myself up for burnout?
