As a former employee whose position was "eliminated" for no reason other than they are "restructuring", this company does a poor job at providing a sense of job security to their employees. Our story begins in 2020 during COVID, when most of the workforce was furloughed - understandable. However, when the 8 months of furlough came to an end, the company "eliminated" my position along with several others and offered us a severance package. However, the kicker is, if you applied for another position within the organization, you would forfeit your severance whether you got the position or not. As if having stewed in the uncertainty of COVID and the future of my career for 8 months wasn't traumatic enough, the phone call, conducted by the HR Director, and CEC Director (both of whom I personally knew, was friendly with, and had worked with for several years), informing me of my "elimination" might as well been a physical letter in the mail. These people don't know how to lead with Emotional Intelligence and completely miss the boat on compassion and empathy. Cool. Fast forward to this month, the company reports $944 million in earnings in Q3, and in the same email announces another "restructuring" that leaves their current employees (one of which is a close friend who "survived" the previous "restructuring") riddled with anxiety for days (in true Marriott fashion - they love to build suspense and leave you hanging). And once they have decided that if the anticipation hasn't pushed their employees to the brink of a mental breakdown, their "leadership" throws a 15-minute Outlook calendar invite with a cryptic title - "I'll call you" only to let you know that your position has been eliminated as of January 3rd, 2025. MEANWHILE - the people who retain their jobs in the same position are told that they should brace themselves for more workload and higher expectations for the same pay. So in conclusion, if you want to: - wake up every morning wondering if you're gonna be out of a job for no reason -have to constantly fight to the death to keep your current job, in spite of tenure, skill level, or position (as there has been no transparency around how they determine who keeps their job in the same position or not) - treated like a number after years of loyalty, sacrifice, and drinking the kool-aid - have to suddenly take on the workload of 3-4 of your colleagues who were eliminated with no increase in pay Then this is the company for you. May the odds be ever in your favor.
