Not good management, low salaries

Limited to the payment industry

Inevitably like any large size organisation, the size of company leads to regular reorganisations and adjustments in management structure.

No cons as of now.

Where to begin? Mastercard is the poster child for corporate silos where every department is an island and collaboration is more myth than mandate. Want to make an impact (especially in Comms)? Better bring a bullhorn and a selfie stick, because self-promotion is the only currency that matters. Quietly doing great work? No one will notice, especially not the EVPs (Especially in Marketing and Comms) who won’t make eye contact unless you’re one of their chosen ones (loud, shiny, or politically useful). Ageism? Rampant. If you’re over 45, you’re either being quietly pushed out or being told to “refresh your personal brand.” Sexism? Yes, just not the direction you’d expect. Some departments are silently dismissive of men and reward behavior that would raise HR eyebrows elsewhere. Culture-wise, it’s a lot of performative values with little substance. Mastercard loves to say the right things on an HR poster, but the reality is a rigid hierarchy where actual innovation is stifled by layers of approval and ego.

Global payment industry, so many positions are high pressure, high criticality Walking the line between financial services company and technology company, with all of the regulatory and process overhead of both, which can be extremely frustrating

Corporate culture is fake at times and very much who you know.

There are a few times working outside of hours because of timezone.

Maybe too much politics but that is expected for such a big company,

Slow-moving company given its crucial place in the payments ecosystem. It pretends to 'move fast', but that's more of a goal than a reality.

three days in the office

Highly segregated structure, sometime confusing

Jargon is a real issue, they use so many acronyms, many of them internal, It make following conversations and meetings difficult at times. They have some old processes that can be very convoluted and difficult to follow. They are large, it can be difficult to find the right person or team to get answers. this at times leads to very different answers and slow movement on projects.

It is now a big corporate after all, with all the effects

Not so much to be honest.

Rewards senior who've been moved out of teams they failed. Australia limited in opportunity for specialists; must move abroad to other MA offices like SG growth.

P&C have been one of the most toxic teams I've ever worked with. The leadership is delusional and lacks basic social skills. Communication is poor and there is zero transparency. Nepotism and favoritism is a standard practice. People are quietly fired and replaced with friends of the leadership. You could experience bullying and harassment every day. Middle managers use inappropriate language all the time and belittle their reports. Avoid!

Very Slow process. Leaves a lot of room for business changes to impact your position.

Cumbersome admin corporate bureaucratic processes

Ambiguity Unclear/ill-defined corporate strategy Complete lack of standardization (language, process, etc.)

- too much bureaucracy - outdated/mundane bizops processes - learning is not good. everything is outdated so time is spent more on maintaining broken processes than adding real new features and touching new tech - promotions suck as an engineer. your success is tied to the team your on and the opporunities you are given. - too many (old) apps. too many stakeholders. learning curve is too deep to ramp up. moreover, leadership is constantly reorg. teams so the learning resets. - Nobody really knows why we have these dumb processes in place. endless confluence docs. - haven't learned anything in 3 years. - nobody really wants to be here. not a great place to grow your career.

The workload is crazy and if you're unlucky you'll be working on legacy application. So many red tape to get product to live
