Product designer
• Meaningful work: Working on government and banking projects gives you the chance to design for impact at a national scale. You get to solve real problems that touch millions of lives—especially in public service delivery, citizen experiences, and financial inclusion. • Diverse challenges: Projects vary from policy-driven design to digital transformation in traditional banks, which means there’s always a new challenge. It pushes you to think deeply about user behavior, regulations, and business goals. • Cross-functional exposure: You’ll often work with consultants, engineers, and domain experts—not just designers. This improves your ability to think strategically and understand how design fits into the larger picture. • Process ownership: In many projects, especially in the government space, you’ll be defining the design process from scratch, which is a great learning experience.
• Design maturity varies: Not all teams or clients have a strong understanding of design. You may need to advocate for design practices and educate stakeholders more often than not. • Fast-paced delivery cycles: Due to tight deadlines and policy timelines, some projects lean more toward execution than research or iteration. • Hierarchy and approvals: Government projects can be bureaucratic. Design decisions often go through multiple layers of approval, which can be slow or dilute the original vision. • Less focus on cutting-edge tools: While the work is impactful, it’s not always at the forefront of design innovation or trends. If you’re looking for motion design, 3D, or experimental UI work, this may not be the space.
