As a journalist, there is only a threshold of where you can progress in the medium term. This is because the company regards loyalty highly and will tend to acknowledge staff who have been with the firm for a long time with promotions.

As usual, some politics between bigger departments versus the smaller ones. Hard to find top leadership.

Long working hours, tedious job, basically it is a 9 am to 9 pm working hours, 6 days a week although it stated differently

Career progression is quite low

Salaries are not as competitive as similar companies in the nation/region. Links to national political parties can sometimes affect perception of bias and credibility. Harder for executives to climb the career ladder with senior managers staying in their posts for many years.

Management of the company and staff morale can be improved.

Feels like a dead-end job with no clear career prospectives

Terrible jam once work is over, sometimes into the car park. Company politics exists, but for the most part it affects those at the top. Press freedom is as expected, though sometimes you can push the envelope. Management/the board invested and bought into things that were obviously not making money, and continued to pump money into them at the expense of every other department. Gigantic white elephant that everyone else makes fun of. Pay is low for the working hours and depending on the news, you may have no work-life balance.

Need to cut down on steps and rigid systems for this era

Management lack of direction, benefit cut, politics and trouble maker is everywhere

Salary wasn't the highest, but decent increment per annum; also, tendency towards politicisation (unavoidable as paper is majority owned by a political party). Also, if you're working in the office, you'll end up leaving the place later in the evening or night, because of traffic jams outside the SPRINT highway

-If you're in sales, the incentive/commission may not be appealing. But just like any other corporates, things are not that flexible and employees may not have a chance to make any change. -Could be quite political -Career growth could be really slow -I don't think it's transparent on how the company could sustain in the future, as newspaper is dying and the digital platforms are not that outstanding, in terms of generating revenue

- The traffic outside Menara Star can be quite a nightmare and sometimes begins inside the parking lot itself. I recommend taking the MRT instead - Depending on when you intern, sometimes there are periods without many ongoing projects (like at the end of the year) and there isn't much to do, interns may be doing mundane tasks like writing letters, calling, transcribing etc
