Journalist
People were generally friendly and helpful, even to newbies. It was clear that there were long-lasting friendships even after people left the company. You do learn a lot on the job and from older staff/bosses/mentors. Benefits are better than in other media companies. You are part of the journalists union. Location is convenient if you take the train. Canteen food is relatively cheap but there are nearby restaurants.
Terrible jam once work is over, sometimes into the car park. Company politics exists, but for the most part it affects those at the top. Press freedom is as expected, though sometimes you can push the envelope. Management/the board invested and bought into things that were obviously not making money, and continued to pump money into them at the expense of every other department. Gigantic white elephant that everyone else makes fun of. Pay is low for the working hours and depending on the news, you may have no work-life balance.
Executive
Pretty okay work life balance. Good colleagues.
Need to cut down on steps and rigid systems for this era
Sales executive
Big companies can learn more
Organization structure unclear, workflow unclear
Business development
Exposure due to big brand, but brand reputation is going down
Management lack of direction, benefit cut, politics and trouble maker is everywhere
Foreign correspondent
Pretty okay working hours and weekends generally free (barring breaking news situations or unavoidable events on weekends); Editors are pretty chill, again except when it's breaking news.
Salary wasn't the highest, but decent increment per annum; also, tendency towards politicisation (unavoidable as paper is majority owned by a political party). Also, if you're working in the office, you'll end up leaving the place later in the evening or night, because of traffic jams outside the SPRINT highway
Account executive
-Good benefits, in terms of dental/medical/allowances -Employees get additional EPF contribution/annual leave based on their year of service -Employees activities (Sport club)
-If you're in sales, the incentive/commission may not be appealing. But just like any other corporates, things are not that flexible and employees may not have a chance to make any change. -Could be quite political -Career growth could be really slow -I don't think it's transparent on how the company could sustain in the future, as newspaper is dying and the digital platforms are not that outstanding, in terms of generating revenue
Content writer
Lots to learn there and I love it.
Management can be quite a problem.
