Is it worth doing a certification if the company doesn't pay for it?

If the certification is widely recognized (AWS, PMP, ACCA), yes. It's an investment in your OWN market value, which stays with you even if you leave the company.

Is a Master's in Data Science from a local uni worth it?

UM and UPM have solid programmes. Good for networking and local NGO/GLC roles. For tech MNCs, a portfolio of projects is still usually more important than the Master's degree paper.

Is a "Unlimited Leave" policy actually a good thing?

Often it means people take LESS leave because they are worried about being judged. Policies with a minimum mandated leave are much healthier for long-term productivity.

Transitioning from accounting to financial analysis (FP&A)

Focus on your storytelling with numbers. Learn advanced Excel and visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau). Your accounting foundation is vital for accuracy, but FP&A is about looking forward, not back.

Things I wish I knew before joining a 10-person startup

No clear processes means you build them. Great learning, chaotic execution. Equity is only worth something if the company exits.

How to negotiate your notice period when joining a new company

If you want to leave earlier, offer a very clear handover plan. "I can finish the transition in 2 weeks of focused work if you allow it." companies often prefer a clean break over a long, unmotivated notice.

My thoughts on the gig economy in Malaysia 2025

Grab driver earns RM3,000-5,000/month full-time. Good as side income, risky as primary without planning for EPF and health coverage.

Start with friends and family. Show your worth through a small project. Use LinkedIn to share your work. Networking at local events (Coworking, Tech meets) is much more effective than cold-emailing.

How to prep for a case study interview for non-consulting roles

Focus on structure. Say your assumptions out loud. Use a framework (SWOT, 4P). Practice mental math. Interviewers want to see HOW you think, not just the final number.
