The Library Assistant in the Lending Services Unit provides lending services to staff and students of the Library. The role involves ensuring library materials are made available to users and delivered in a timely manner, including handling loans, reserves, multimedia services, and user assistance. The position also involves assisting with the accessibility and maintenance of library collections, performing administrative duties related to lending services, supporting acquisition and cataloguing processes, assisting with campus events, and contributing to meetings and discussions. The role may require undertaking shift work as needed.
Minimum qualification of STPM, Diploma, or University degree in related disciplines, recognized in librarianship with experience in loans, cataloguing, acquisitions, or serials acquisition in the University Library.
Minimum one (1) year of experience with good knowledge and some experience in Lending Services, preferably within an academic library.
Knowledge in international cataloguing and classification standards (e.g. AAC2R, DDC, LCSubject Headings, MARC21).
Knowledge in using Library system.
IT skills including Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint).
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to effect change.
Sound organisational and time management skills.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with a capacity to deliver quality client service.
Proven capacity to effectively liaise and negotiate with a range of users.
