This role involves conducting high-level legal and regulatory research on the upstream oil and gas sector in Asia. You will analyze contractual risks and fiscal developments to support investment decisions for global energy companies and government policymakers.
The Principal Legal Analyst will join the E&P Terms and Above-Ground Risk team to provide industry-leading analysis on regulatory and contractual issues in the Asia-Pacific upstream sector. You will research complex legal, commercial, and economic developments, monitor fiscal changes, and maintain risk scores to guide investment decisions. The role involves high-level client engagement, presenting insights to governments and corporations, and collaborating globally to assess how energy transition policies impact the traditional oil and gas landscape.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law is essential; further studies in energy policy or taxation are desirable.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the upstream oil and gas sector in Asia.
Proven experience producing high-quality research and analyzing laws and contracts across distinct jurisdictions.
Excellent writing and presentation skills in English for high-level client engagement.
Strong critical thinking with the ability to leverage both qualitative and quantitative information.
Proficiency with MS applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience with AI tools in a research environment and familiarity with energy transition trends.
Flexible approach with the ability to work collaboratively with global teams in different locations.
