The VMware Lead Engineer is responsible for maintaining and supporting both on-premises and cloud platforms, ensuring the effective and efficient operation of computing systems and equipment. The role involves managing core operating systems and virtualization platforms, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, and providing technical support and training to users.
The Vmware Lead Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and supporting both On-Premises and Cloud Platforms, ensuring computing systems and equipment operate effectively and efficiently. The role focuses on the availability, integrity, security, and performance of the infrastructure, including upgrading and improving operating environments, creating repair strategies, and providing technical support and training to users. The engineer will manage core operating systems and virtualization platforms, install and configure hardware and software, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, provide third-level support, and manage incidents and requests. The role requires coordinating technology installations, upgrades, maintenance, documenting solutions, and proactively monitoring infrastructure service issues.
VMware vSphere 7 to 8 installation, configuration, management, and patching experience is required.
Experience with Network Configuration including Cisco IOS, Nx-OS, and vDS is required.
Knowledge of Windows Server 2016-2025 is required.
Automation experience with PowerShell, PowerCLI, Ansible Platform, Bash, or Python is required.
Experience with Enterprise Compute and Storage Platforms such as Dell EMC Hyperconverged Platforms, Dell VMAX, Isilon, and NetApp is required.
Familiarity with change and incident management processes is required.
Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions is required.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Experience supporting Cloud Platforms such as Azure and AWS is required.
Operating systems support expertise in Windows and Red Hat Linux is required.
Experience installing, maintaining, and monitoring operating environments is required.
Capabilities in system administration of on-premises and cloud infrastructure are required.
Experience with server hardware, software, and operating system monitoring and generating performance reports is required.
Knowledge of IT laws, codes, and regulations as applicable is required.
Experience evaluating technology risks and developing remediation action plans is required.
Willingness to participate in change activities scheduled out of hours and support an on-call rota is required.
Experience liaising with managed hosting services for vendor support is required.
Ability to produce documentation such as best practices, design documents, and run books is required.
Experience managing incidents and requests across Windows and Linux servers hosted on vSphere/ESXi and Dell Hyperconverged Compute/Storage is required.
Experience proactively monitoring and resolving infrastructure service issues prior to escalation is required.
Experience documenting malfunctions and response actions is required.
Experience with high-level systems administration and providing 3rd level support is required.
Experience with technical expertise in diagnosis and resolution of issues is required.
