Awful Medical Benefits Experience with company is management dependent

Where to start about this company and my employment experience here.. I entered this role with many years underwriting experience and was absolutely shocked and disappointed in the mismanagement and disarray of the underwriting centre. The manager was a young woman who just outlived other employees (no doubt wasn’t able to get employment elsewhere due to “people skills” There was no solid underwriting guidelines, the team as a whole were very undertrained and put under intense time pressures. Sales staff regularly undermine the underwriting team and there is little to no relationship with brokers as a result The pay is low in comparison to the rest of the insurance industry and there is little to nil possibility progression through the company

Pay variates drastically between employees

Too long to get changes made to make work productive. Also, for the department I worked in, too much work and not enough people, with turnover rate being extremely high.

Team work nil. Generally understaffed

Overworked and undervalued/underpaid. Constantly changing guidelines and strategies. Unattainable goals. Compensation could/should be better. The environment/culture is HEAVILY dependent on who your manager is.

Need to improve diversity talent within executive management and board

Upper management is out of touch. Good leaders have all left. Refusing to embrace work from home now that it is no longer convenient for them. Talk nonstop about how customers pay 30% more however they pay employees less than other standard carriers. After the purchases of Firemans Fund and Chubb by ACE, they are struggling.

“Lean and mean” operation which can be clunky to change

Some senior bosses can be difficult to please and always seem to be looking for faults.

It was hard to be successful - no one seemed to be available to cross train.

It used to be, before the merger, that development groups were entrepreneurial and genuinely agile. Now that we have completed our merger, our IT has been reorganizing and we've added loads of BAs, PMs, auditors, managers and business owners such that the typical programmer in IT now probably is carrying the product weight of a half a dozen people who work in IT but do not actually make software. Red tape, finger pointing, and risk adversity are now baked into the corporate culture.

Poor HR. Constant restructuring. Not great bonus

Overworked, you will take your work home with you. expected to work 50 hours weekly if not more, as well to stay late. Management is a boy's club akin to some WallStreet movie. They do not care if you are having personal life impacts/issues. If they decide they want to let you go they will trick you into signing paperwork as a "review". Cut-throat industry, can't trust your co-workers as everyone is looking to step on someone else to gain an edge.

1. Effort of hard working employees goes unrecognized leading to loss of good talent. 2. Good place if you want to chill and enjoy without being over-ambitious.

Inflexible processes, procedures and management

high performance targets not always fair or achievable career development and focus on nurturing talent is lacking systems are old and behind the rest of the market. New IT initiatives take too long to roll out and implement.

A very cut-throat work environment

After merger with ACE, had to learn their system-difficult working with 2 systems. Raises are very small-reviewed once a year.

Generally boring work atmosphere, especially if you re coming right out of college. This may vary per location but that was just my experience.

Since the acquisition by ACE, I feel the company is headed in the wrong direction. Employees are faced with unrealistic workloads. Chubb's reputation is slipping amongst brokers and insureds, as employees simply don't have the capacity to provide the service once expected from the old Chubb. Pay is mediocre at best. Starting to truly feel like "just a number."

Incredibly poor work culture. No respect from senior management, unrealistic expectations of responsibilities and timelines, lack of resources to accomplish basic daily tasks (horrendous IT infrastructure) and no personal accountability. Intermediate level position such as senior analysts are under compensated and there is no career development structure so that you know what skills and competencies you need to reach the next level.

Pay is way below market.

Not much autonomy . Not a lot of room for growth.

Did Chubb just get acquired by Travelers and nothing was publicly announced? Senior management is always talking Travelers this and Travelers that! If they loved the company that much they should have stayed there. Operations is being run like a circus these days and no one is asking staff how they feel. Hard working people not getting the guidance and support they need.
