The role of Professor in Food Studies at Taylor's University involves teaching and research related to food cultures and systems, particularly in the context of Asian modernization. The Professor - Food Studies will contribute to teaching and learning activities at Taylor's Culinary Institute for postgraduate programmes in Food Studies, as well as relevant degree programmes across the university. They will engage with theoretical and methodological tools from social sciences needed to analyze contemporary issues related to food cultures and systems. The role involves participating in teaching duties, supporting research projects and postgraduate supervision, contributing to curriculum development, and maintaining high teaching standards. This position also involves joining the Food Studies group at the Centre for Asian Modernization Studies, collaborating with academic and societal stakeholders on research related to the modernization of food consumption in Asia. Responsibilities include participating in research activities, organizing events, securing competitive external funding, contributing to administrative duties, and building relationships with external institutions.
Possesses a minimum of a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with research linked to food cultures and food systems and a minimum of eight years of university-level teaching or industry experience inclusive of curriculum development and the graduation of at least four PhD students.
Demonstrates research and academic excellence evidenced by at least fifteen publications in ISI or Scopus journals in the last five years on topics related to food cultures and food systems.
Has at least a Scopus H-Index of 12.
Experience in developing teaching methodologies and materials, including the effective use of IT technologies in the facilitation of teaching and learning.
Experience of securing and working on research projects and consultancy work, including evidence of secured research and consultancy grants as a Principal Investigator worth a minimum cumulative RM150,000.
Possesses at least one Intellectual Property (IP) in the form of patents, copyrights or trademarks.
Demonstrates links to relevant external organizations (governmental and non-governmental) and/or the industry.
Has the capacity to work with international partners and people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
Shows commitment to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams across multiple institutions.
