There is no communication whatsoever. Sales and management promise impossible timetables and then punish employees with layoffs every quarter when these deadlines aren't met. The management doesn't know and has no interest in learning what skills their employees have, so some employees are overloaded with 70-80 hour work weeks while others have nothing to do. Being in a P&L contract industry, some risk is understandable but there is no job security at all.

Nothing to complain about the management.

It's a big company, sometimes things move slow. They have websense which is annoying, they use kronos which isn't great. Other than that it's fine.

Being a global company you will find that sometimes you need to attend a call early in the morning or in the evening. Personal boundaries with respect and flexibility for peers in other countries is important.

Micromanagement, some crucial processes were missing, resource planning could have been better

1. Sometimes it's easy to get lost in the shuffle as too much is going on. 2. The IT systems are antiquated.

It’s a large company, things sometime move at a slower pace than you would like. To some thats not a bad thing, but it’s been something for me to adjust to.

Because of bussiness moving fast, and depend on contrat manufacturing, if business down turn, there will be massive retreatment. job not secure.

Budget and time allowed for training, seminars and professional development is tight so you will need to pursue continued education and learning outside on your own.

The company has a low profit margin (somewhere in the 2 to 3% range). As a consequence, it operates very lean and this has a direct impact on resource availability and work life balance. Work life balance can get seriously out of whack. It depends what is your position in the company. At the manufacturing sites, for instance, the MEs and PMs are driven pretty hard. Very long hours. Very thin on resources. As a global PM, there can be a lot of travel (often international) involved, varying widely from 20-30% to close to 90%. Keeping tabs on programs overseas also means long days and late night calls with overseas facilities. Continuously changing company, always in some state of flux. The organizations within the company seem to undergo continuous changes with large changes (re-orgs) every few years Compensation is lower than you would see at Google or other Tech company.

Not very many downsides to mention. Other than current work conditions of over crowding, but that is a good thing to do work load and growth. Line of communication from customer thru management to project team to engineers could be more clear at times, but that is typical of most ways of business in the engineering field.
