Just got the announcement today. Back to 5 days in office starting April. No explanation given, just "alignment with company direction." I moved to Rawang 2 years ago because I thought WFH was permanent. My commute will…
My company piloted it for 3 months and productivity went up. Management ended it anyway. Frustrating.
Running dual monitors in 600sqft. Biggest upgrade was a proper chair — fixed my back pain completely.
Calendar blocking 9-11am as deep work with no Slack. Moved all meetings to afternoon. Getting more done in less time after 2 months.
WFH wins on autonomy and commute. Hybrid on collaboration and visibility. Hybrid 3/2 is the sweet spot most prefer.
Doing it for a UK startup. Paid in GBP, declared to LHDN. Invoiced through sole proprietorship. Best of both worlds.
Cafes for creative tasks, home for deep focus. Noise helps ideation but destroys coding sessions.
WeWork and Colony are RM400-700/month in KL. Tried it for 2 months and productivity went up noticeably.
Honest answer: only if you have help (nanny/parents). You can't focus on deep work while watching a toddler. It leads to frustration for both you and the child. Set realistic expectations with your boss.
Best of both worlds. Earning in SGD, spending in MYR. Commute is better now with the RTS progress. Just make sure the tax and EPF situation is sorted correctly.
Internet was great, cost of living was lower than KL for food, but co-working space was RM600. Worked KL hours (same timezone). Felt much more refreshed. Highly recommend if your company allows it.
Joined a coworking space in Bangsar. Made 3 new friends in a week. Productivity and mental health improved. Spending RM500/month is an investment in my sanity.
Scheduled weekly coworking days, joined a running club, regular calls with non-work friends. Be proactive about social life.
Company approved WFH from anywhere. Internet was fine (co-working space). Time zone was same as KL. Productivity was identical. Cost of living saved me RM1,500 vs KL. Would do again.
Minimum: 20Mbps stable. Comfortable: 50Mbps. Video calls and file sharing: 100Mbps+ recommended. Unifi is most reliable. Time fibre is good. Celcom/Digi mobile broadband as backup.
Wrist RSI from bad keyboard angle, lower back pain from a dining chair. Fixed with: wrist rest, laptop stand + external keyboard, lumbar support. Spent RM400 total. Worth every ringgit.
After first burnout: set hard work-hour limits in calendar, started tracking tasks in a simple list, scheduled weekly personal check-ins, and stopped reading work email after 7pm. Held the line.
Having young kids at home while WFH full-time is not sustainable. You need proper childcare even if you're home. Productivity on days I watch my toddler is about 20% of normal. Companies should offer more flexibility.
1. Hours ≠ output. 2. Camera on doesn't mean engaged. 3. Monitoring software creates mistrust not performance. The best productivity signal is deliverables — full stop.
In visibility-driven cultures, yes. If your manager doesn't see you, they don't think of you. Counter: deliver visibly, share updates proactively, get face time strategically. Remote bias is real.
